Pictures of Susan

Susan LaFae Painter Ferguson returned to her Heavenly Father on May 14, 2003      after a long and difficult struggle with cancer.  Over the last six years of her life Susan was an inspiration to all that knew her, as she turned her affliction into blessings with her positive attitude, her sense of humor in the face of adversity, and her constant desire to strive for her very best.

Susan was born in Oakland, California on August 20, 1951 to her loving parents, Edward and LaFae Painter.  She married Chuck Ferguson in the Oakland Temple on July 11, 1970, and they enjoyed nearly 33 years of their eternal marriage on this earth before her passing.  She was proud of all her children, Sandi, Suzette (and her husband Carter), Shauna (deceased), Eldin (and his fiancé Katie), and Spencer.  She also dearly loved and enjoyed her 5 grandchildren, Laycee, Kaden, Sarah, Joseph and Joshua.

Soon after her marriage Susan went to a vocational school, earning her Licensed Vocational Nurse certificate.  She served as an LVN (or LPN) for over a decade before going to Weber State University to earn her Registered Nurse license and a B.S. degree.  She eventually earned her Masters Degree from Brigham Young University as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Susan spent most of her nursing career as a rural hospital nurse.  She loved to serve and comfort her patients, always going the extra mile to meet their needs.  “Service” was her motto, and she did all she could to emulate her hero, Mother Theresa.  Her colleagues appreciated her knowledge, skills, integrity and dedication, and also her great sense of humor.  Later Susan became a teacher of nurses, eventually serving as the director of the Snow College South Allied Health Department.  In this role she helped to prepare scores of students to become nurses, teaching them to reach out to meet their patients’ needs in a caring and professional manner.  She also freely volunteered her time and talents, always reaching out to anyone who needed her help.  Susan truly used the talents that the Lord blessed her with to serve others.

Susan loved sports.  Her favorite was softball.  She played in women’s and coed softball leagues for over 20 years, and she was famous for her line drive shots down the third baseline.  She loved to watch her children participate in their favorite activities as well, and she rarely missed an event in which they were involved.

Throughout her life Susan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in a variety of teaching and leadership positions.  Her testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ was so very important to her, and she demonstrated this at all times in the way she lived her life.  No adversity was strong enough to ever dim her testimony.

Susan joins her daughter Shauna, and her sisters Cindy and Paula beyond the veil.  She was already an angel on this earth, and now having passed to the other side we know that she will be an angel who will continue to touch our lives daily.  We love her so much.  We miss her so much.  And always she will be in our hearts.
